2nd Annual Georgia AgriScience & Outdoor Recreation Expo – Hosted by the Upper Ocmulgee River RC&D Council and others.  A Field-Day giving you a hands on look at the latest in GA Farm- Ag and Erosion & Sediment Control Products.

When: Friday & Saturday, April 21st-22nd, 2017 | 8am – 5pm each day

Who: Farmers, contractors, landscape architects, foresters, engineers, developers, builders, government officials, homeowners and You.

Why: View live demonstrations and exhibits to learn about innovations in the GA Farm & Erosion Control Industries.

 

UGA Cooperative Extension, Gwinnett County will be offering the Journeyman Farmers Certificate Program.  It is a comprehensive training program created by the University of Georgia for beginning farmers and those who are considering starting a farm. It consists of three parts:

  1. Small Farm Business Planning
  2. Small Fruit & Vegetable Production
  3. Hands-on Production Training

The small farms business planning section will cover the financial side of farming. Topics discussed will include budgets, income statements, risk management, marketing and other pertinent subjects. It consists of four two hour sessions and will be conducted in partnership with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center.

The second section will cover vegetable and fruit production and what you need to know to grow healthy crops for a successful harvest. It consists of seven two hour sessions. Topics include soil fertility, crop rotation, pest management, and other subjects. 

The third section is the Hands-On Production training, which is handles through the University of Georgia and Georgia Organics.

Gwinnett County Extension will be holding the Journeyman Farmers Certificate Program in the second floor conference room of the Gwinnett County Government Building, 750 South Perry St. #400, Lawrenceville, GA 30046on the following dates: 

The Small Farm Business Planning section will be held on the following dates and times:

Friday, March 31, 8:00am to 1:00pm

Saturday, April 1, 8:00am to 1:00pm

Lunch will be served on both days. The cost is $50 per participant. The deadline for registration is March 24, 2017

The Small Fruit and Vegetable Production section will be held at the same location on the following dates and times:

Thursday June 15, 8:00am - 4:00pm (Includes afternoon field trip to local farm)

Friday, June 16, 8:00am - 3:00pm

Saturday, June 17, 8:00am – Noon

Lunch will be served on Thursday and Friday only. The cost is $75 per participants. The registration deadline is June 7, 2017.

Make checks payable to Gwinnett County Extension/4H. We must have your payments by the deadlines. There will be no onsite registration.

You must attend both the Small Farm Business Planning and the Small Fruit & Vegetable Production sections followed by completing the hands on training in order to receive the certificate. If you have taken one of the sections at another location and then take the other one at Gwinnett Extension, that will count.
